Dress for Success

Today the interns had a great day giving back to the community for our Philanthropy Day.  The 12 of us, along with a few mentors, teamed up with an organization called "Dress for Success".

"The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work.

Since 1997, Dress for Success has served more than 550,000 women around the world. Each year they reach more than 50,000 women in the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, Mexico, Poland and the West Indies."

In order to take part and really give back, we spent the day in the New York warehouse with Dress for Success.  The interns rummaged through tons of boxes and bags of clothes, shoes, and accessories deciding if the items were work appropriate or not.  If it was, we divided it into summer or winter, and then by size.  We were able to help dig through, hang up, and organize enough clothing to get the warehouse completely caught up for the season!

It was really fulfilling to get to work with an organization like this.  This internship is really all about empowerment.  This time however, we were on the other end of the table as we had the opportunity to empower and share our stories.  I felt so good helping to empower women--not just through mark. and makeup, but this time indirectly through this behind the scenes kind of work.  Looking good--especially for women in the workforce, is an incredibly stressful task.  Trust me, I know!  I think every woman out there has had a wardrobe meltdown; it was so rewarding to be able to help provide clothes for women and take that worry away from them.

This organization's mission and passion was AWESOME.  I hope to find another time to reconnect with Dress for Success and help them again.  If you want to check out their website to find a way to help on your own, click this link:

Here are a few pictures of the warehouse and our work!

"When I'm in a suit, I feel like I'm getting there.  I might not be there yet, but I'm well on my way."

"Dress for Success has taught me that I am someone special and that I have the ability to empower myself."

Where the work began!

Our hard work!
